Behind the Scenes Note:
Unlike most GMs, there was no real reason in terms of story why this one was titled 'X'. It just sounded cool.

The Concept:
GMX was an active effort to somewhat tone down the huge scale 'epicness' (for lack of a better word) that was tied with GMs thanks to GMA. It was also meant to showcase the 'New' Mobius Forum World. Having said that, its main inspiration was perhaps stealth video games like Metal Gear Solid.

That's not to say that the story had anything to do with the events or characters of said game, but rather the concept of characters equipped with specific equipment, undergoing a mission to save certain hostages, all that tied together in a cinematic flair that resembled that of MGS (and a few parallels like Metal Flamer Maron/Metal Gear Rex and WepTech/ArmsTech corporations). The idea was to have the forumers infiltrate a base, and use stealth military tactics to take down the bad guys. That meant that this was primarily an action oriented mission. Because due to the tone of the story and the overall style of the GM, it was pointed out that it greatly resembled the original GMs before GMA (something that was actually intentional). To better keep that flavour, Pyroclad, the MFW's very first villain, was chosen to lead the side of evil.

Unfortunately it was never completed, but since the story was already planed ahead of time, it was revealed later in GMR what had actually transpired (read: supposed to have transpired). Here the story is presented in its full form.

The Story:
GMX introduced the shadowy WepTech Corporation. A Scientific firm, specializing in genetic research and weapons development (usually combined). (WepTech was naturally a reference to ArmsTech from MGS1). WepTech was involved in all kinds of technological research (and sometimes even magical research). It was widely regarded that their scientists were the most brilliant minds of the MFW.

GMX was jump started when WepTech Corp.'s headquarters were attacked by unknown military operatives. Twenty of WepTech's top scientists were kidnapped, and their kidnappers had seemingly disappeared without a trace.

WB, then Webmaster of Sega City along with Vector, discovered after performing his own investigation the truth of what went on. Pyroclad, MFW's original villain, had amassed a sizable army of mercenaries within a secret base and he had named this mercenary taskforce "FLAME" (Fiery Legion of Aggressive Military Enforcement).

The base itself was covered by a state of the art cloaking field rendering it nearly invisible to the naked eye (it was sheer luck that WB managed to discover parts of it using a very sophisticated satellite system, as well as his supernatural Admin intuition). If that wasn't enough, for some odd reason, the base completely negated super powers and magic on its interior.

WB organised a team of forumers spearheaded by Troophead and a de-powered Mobius TetherBlood who were ordered to stealthy infiltrate FLAME headquarters, rescue the scientists, find out what Pyroclad was cooking up, and ultimately stop him.

Once inside, the forumers soon realised that the soldiers of FLAME were not their only problems as they begun to have chance encounters with an elite cadre of specialised commandos bearing the designation HEAT (Heavy Enforcement Assault Team - aside from serving as boss-fights, the members of HEAT were a parallel to FOXHOUND from MGS).

The original members of HEAT were 6. Their leader was HEAT ZERO, an old mercenary of Pyroclad and his second in command. H0 trained the 5 best soldiers within Pyroclad's army and gave each soldier in the unit a number that served as both rank and skill designation. Thus of the 5 members of HEAT, HEAT 5 was the weakest and HEAT 1 was the strongest. These members of HEAT were the most dangerous adversaries during GMX but they were finally defeated by the forumers (who managed to beat them without killing them - except one).

When the forumers reached the hostages they found none other than HEAT ZERO in their way, and after a gruesome battle, H0 was killed.

It was then however that the forumers were finally informed of Pyroclad's plan by the scientists.

Pyroclad needed the scientists to complete his doomsday machine: a walking battle tank capable of mass destruction called Metal Flamer MARON (and yes, this was a direct reference to Metal Gear REX from the MGS games).

MARON was a walking battle tank equipped with extremely destructive flame throwers. Its purpose was one: Burn Sega City to a crisp, and to make matters worse, MARON was already operational and heading towards Sega City.

MARON was nearly impossible to destroy. Conventional weapons could not penetrate its defences, and mass destruction weapons (like nukes) were not only rare in the MFW, but would also take out Sega City with them. The same field that protected Pyroclad's base also protected MARON on a 5 mile radius around it, making it impervious to super powers and magic.

However, the scientists knew of its weak point and told the forumers what to do. MARON's inside was not immune to powers or magic, and if a forumers could get close enough to it and survive, then he could use an emergency hatch located on MARON and enter its insides.

In the final battle, a group of forumers entered MARON and then used their powers to blast it to oblivion.

Aftermath:
Though the police pretty much rounded up most of the mercs from FLAME, many of them escaped as did Pyroclad of course.

Following the destruction of MARON and Pyroclad's defeat, Mobius TetherBlood bought off the contracts of the surviving members of HEAT and made them into his personal taskforce of soldiers and bodyguards. HEAT performed several covert operations for the following 2 years all under the supervision of their new proverbial master.

WepTech retrieved their scientists and continued their research while concentrating their efforts on the Genetic Research Department.

Pyroclad remains out there, waiting for the right time to avenge his defeat.
